On this second album the vocals are more confident, if still incompetent. The arrangements are pretty varied, and some of the lyrics are among my best. I recorded this after I had been back Stateside for a full year and had read a good deal of anthropological and social theory, in preparation for applying to graduate school. I think the evolutionary consciousness really comes through in many of the songs. Some of the songs were written while I was still in Japan, and first recorded over a weekend at a friend’s studio there. It was fun to record more fully realized versions of those songs here. I also redid a couple of Oren Goby songs just for fun. Most of the best songs are on the first side. If I were a professional musician I would’ve cut the filler out, but I’m not, so I kept everything.
